About This Site

I am Suzanne Boben. My website address is: https://suzanneboben.com. I use this site to share my thoughts through writing, audio and video recordings.

Generally, if you visit my site, I don’t need to know anything about you and I do not personally track anything about anyone. I do not use any personal information about anyone for any reason and I do not, and will not, sell such information.

That said, the software I use to run the website, does at times gather information about you when you interact with it. The number one reason this might happen is because you choose to leave a comment on one of my articles. To leave a comment, you must create an account. The act of creating an account and leaving a comment on an article requires some information about you.

This website runs on WordPress. The sections that follow outline the software and the personal information it may require in order for you to interact with me and my site.

User Accounts

If you wish to leave comments on my articles, it will require that you create an account. I require this to minimize spam, but a user account also enables you to manage your privacy as well. If at some point you wish to delete all your comments, you’d be able to do that through an account. If you do not have an account, this would not be possible. There are different ways to create a user account at my site and they collect different bits of information.

Account Registration via WordPress

Anyone can register for an account using this link:
https://suzanneboben.com/wp-login.php?action=register

WordPress requires a username and a valid email address. I do not require anything more. Whether you add your real name, or any other information, such as your own personal website, is up to you. If the email address you used to create the account has a profile picture associated with it via Gravatar.com, that image will be displayed when you leave comments on my articles.

Account Registration via Social Media Accounts

You will have the option to create an account at my site using one of your social media accounts. The benefit here is convenience, however, social media outlets typically grant access to more of your personal data this way. Again, I do not see this nor do I collect it, but in this case, your real name, your profile picture and your email address used for the social account will be use to create your account at my website.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, WordPress will collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string. The comment is then displayed on the website and may also be sent via email to anyone subscribed to receive comments via email. The collection of IP addresses and user agent strings helps to identify and remove spam.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service (Gravatar.com) to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture, if you have one, will be displayed with the comment.

Media

At this time, I do not allow media uploads from general users.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site, you will have the option to save your name, email address and website in a cookie. This is for convenience so that you do not have to type your information again every time you want to leave a comment. Cookies last for one year.

If you visit my login page, WordPress will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, WordPress will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you become an author at my site, capable of publishing or editing articles, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Data Sharing

I do not share or sell data of any kind. However, some data may be shared with you, either for security reasons or because you’ve opted to receive that data. For example, if a password reset is requested for your account, the IP address used to make the request, will be included in the reset email. Another example is if you leave comments on my articles, others will have the option to follow you and receive email notifications when you post new comments.

data Retention

For users that create an account, WordPress stores personal information, that you provide, in your profile. You can view, edit, or delete your personal information at any time. Name, email address and any other information you can specify in your account can be changed by you. Your username is the only bit of information that cannot be changed. I, as the site administrator, can also see and edit your information.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Your rights For your data

If you have an account on this site, and/or you’ve left comments on articles, you may request a copy of the personal data my website stores about you, including any data you stored yourself. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. They may also be shared via email to any user who has chosen to subscribe to user comments.
