I loosen the world from all I thought it was

The Point — This is one of the Workbook’s strongest statements of the Course’s idealist metaphysics. The world you experience is inseparable from the meanings, beliefs, fears, and purposes the mind projects upon it. “Ideas leave not their source”: what appears outside remains an expression of what is being held in mind. Therefore liberation comes through questioning the source of perception, not merely rearranging its effects. When Jesus says “there is no world,” he means the world as an independently existing reality separate from mind is not what perception assumes it to be. Change the mind’s purpose, and the world of experience changes accordingly.

What’s Undone — The belief that the world exists independently with fixed meaning while your mind merely observes it.

Where It Fits — Lesson 130 established that perception follows the chosen thought system. Lesson 132 follows the implication all the way back. The world you see remains tied to the mind that gives it meaning.

Practice Translation — Release the demand that the world be what your past told you it was. You are not being asked to physically destroy or deny appearances, but to withdraw the interpretations that imprison both the world and yourself.

The Takeaway — You free the world by withdrawing the meanings you projected onto it and allowing perception to be given another purpose.
