I am Spirit
The Point — Jesus now names the identity the previous lessons have been approaching: Spirit. This does not mean a ghost inhabiting a body. Within the Course, Spirit is your unlimited identity as God created you—whole, safe, joined, and incapable of being contained by bodily limits. The lesson asks you to stop trying to combine mutually exclusive definitions of yourself. You cannot simultaneously be an unlimited creation of God and essentially a vulnerable organism whose identity begins and ends with the body. The purpose of the practice is not intellectual agreement but growing familiarity with another experience of self.
What’s Undone — The attempt to make bodily limitation and spiritual identity equally true.
Where It Fits — Lesson 94 Unchanged. Lesson 95 One. Lesson 96 The source of salvation. Lesson 97 Finally names it: Spirit.
The Takeaway — “I am Spirit” is not an upgrade to bodily identity; it is the replacement of bodily identity as the definition of what you are.
