A Course In Miracles Lesson 137

When I am healed, I am not healed alone

The Point — Healing reverses separation, so by definition it cannot remain private. Sickness symbolizes isolation in the Course’s thought system; healing symbolizes restored joining. Just as forgiveness is shared because minds are joined, healing received becomes healing extended. Jesus even calls healing a kind of counter-dream: it is still within perception, but it demonstrates that the dream of sickness does not have final authority. Healing therefore serves truth by showing that the laws the ego thought absolute can be reinterpreted. Again, the lesson is speaking primarily about healing at the level of mind. It should not be reduced to a promise that every physical condition must visibly disappear on demand.

What’s Undone — The belief that healing can belong to a separate individual while leaving the underlying perception of separation untouched.

Where It Fits — Lesson 136 locates sickness within the separation thought system. Lesson 137 gives healing the opposite function: Joining.

The Takeaway — Healing is shared because the mind that remembers wholeness can no longer make separation its private truth.
