The Name of God is my inheritance
The Point — Jesus now examines language itself. Naming divides the perceptual field into separate objects, people, events, and identities. This is necessary for communication within the world, so the Course is not asking you to stop using ordinary names. It asks you to stop mistaking the symbols for Reality. Words and labels can become useful communication tools while you remember that the unity they seem to divide remains untouched beneath them.
What’s Undone — The assumption that because something has been named and categorized, the separate identity assigned to it must be ultimately real.
Where It Fits — Lesson 183 uses God’s Name to recall unity. Lesson 184 contrasts that Name with the countless names through which the world teaches separation.
Practice Translation — Use symbols. Just do not let the symbol dictate what the thing is in truth.
The Takeaway — Use the world’s names to communicate, but do not mistake the labels that divide perception for the Reality they cannot divide.
