My grievances hide the light of the world in me
The Point — The light has not disappeared. Grievances cover awareness of it. This is an important Course distinction: salvation does not create something absent; it removes what obscures something already present. Jesus uses the image of dark clouds surrounding a brilliant inner light. The exercise asks you to move through the clouds rather than analyze or rearrange them. Grievances feel substantial because attention remains fixed upon them, but they have no power to destroy what lies beyond them. You are not searching outside for light. You are becoming willing to see what your own judgments have concealed.
What’s Undone — The belief that darkness describes what you are rather than what currently obstructs your awareness.
Where It Fits — Lesson 68 explained that grievances obscure identity. Lesson 69 turns that principle experiential: The light remains present behind what you are choosing to hold against others.
Practice Translation — Do not try to manufacture light. Practice becoming willing to pass through the material that seems to block it.
The Takeaway — Your grievances can hide the light from you, but they cannot put it out.
