A Course In Miracles Lesson 139

I will accept Atonement for myself

The Point — Here the Workbook brings Atonement directly to identity. Every doubt ultimately rests on the question “What am I?” Atonement answers by correcting the belief that separation altered what God created. Accepting Atonement therefore does not repair a damaged self or earn innocence. It means accepting that your denial of Reality never became Reality. You remain as God created you. This is why the Course calls for acceptance, not achievement. And because minds are joined, accepting the truth about yourself necessarily changes how you see everyone else. If your Reality survived error, so did theirs.

What’s Undone — The foundational uncertainty → Perhaps I successfully became something other than what God created.

Where It Fits — Lesson 138 says Heaven is the decision. Lesson 139 specifies the decision to accept the Self that God created, instead of continuing to defend the identity you made.

The Takeaway — Accepting Atonement means ceasing to insist that your mistake successfully changed what God created.
